  1. My favorite objects
  1. My favorite objects

For this still-life project, I brought a few favorite objects from my dorm room and used graphite to study their form and presence. While the objects aren’t obviously related, the composition feels intentional. I was drawn to how their varying heights and scales play off one another, creating a quiet balance that makes the arrangement feel cohesive and visually satisfying.

  1. Longing

For the second project, I worked with charcoal to portray an emotion I’ve been carrying lately. I chose to press my face against a printer and capture the distortion that came from that moment. The final piece feels like looking through a glass window, with my eyes fixed on something distant. It could be memories from my childhood, or maybe an imagined future.

Last but not least, we were assigned to use graphite to interview someone significant in our lives and create a portrait of them. I chose my mom. I wanted the drawing to feel like fragments of memory, showing her across three phases of her life as a teenager, a bride, and a mother. Working on this piece made me feel closer to her, and it pushed me to slow down and really notice her facial features and quiet beauty in a deeper way.
